I have these serving plates which were Made In China. I have suspicions of the serving plates containing lead.?
I have these serving plates which are quite heavy and these serving plates are Made In China. I am suspicious that there is lead in these plates. Is there a way a homeowner can purchase some type of kit and check to see if there is lead in the serving plates. I am not sure if I should use them or give them to someone else to use. I honestly do not know what to do with them. They were given to me as a gift from the QVC Channel. Thank you
There are a lot of products available, at relativity low cost, to test lead levels of surfaces at home - including dishes and toys.

Years ago, we used similar test vials to test lead in paint in home we were inspecting. The kits are easy to use and fast.
BTW - the weight of your dishes is not an indicator of lead content. The lead that would be in them is in the glaze and would not be enough to contribute to the weight of the item in such a way that you would notice.

The latest legislation was put through parliament by the last government. Essentially the act dictates the materials that can be used, how the characters appear and who can supply the car number plates.
Display of Vehicle Registration Numbers
The only font to be used to display a vehicle registration number is the Charles Wright font. There is a set size for the characters displaying the vehicle registration number on car number plates. This is different to the size permissible for motorcycle number plates, as motorcycle number plates are generally smaller in size. In addition to the character size the gap between the characters is also stipulated in the act. It is an offense to alter or misrepresent a vehicle registration number on a number plate in order to make a name or word or make the registration difficult to read. offenders are liable to be fined up to a maximum of £1000. In serious cases the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency may withdraw the registration number permanently.
Registered Number Plate Suppliers
Since the new laws were introduced only registered outlets can supply car number plates. The company or individual are required by law to check that the purchaser of the car number plates has entitlement to the vehicle registration number and check the buyers identity. There are only certain documents that are acceptable in each case. The registered supplier has to record the reference numbers from the documents and keep those records for three years. If a supplier fails to comply with the regulations they can be fined and or band from trading for up to five years.
