How Rock Salt is produced?
Halite is the common name of rock salt. It becomes available in the mineral form of sodium chloride (NaCl). Halite forms in isometric crystals. This mineral is generally colorless or white, but may appeared as light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red orange, yellow, or gray. The color primarily depends on the amount of type of impurities. It commonly occurs with other evaporate deposit minerals such as many of the sulfates, halides, and borates.
Generally, Halite develops in the vast beds of sedimentary evaporate minerals that result from the drying up of enclosed lakes, playas, and seas. These salt beds may have the thickness of hundreds of meters and lie under broad areas. In the United States and Canada immense underground beds stretched from the Appalachian basin of western New York through parts of Ontario and under much of the Michigan Basin. Other sediments are in Ohio, Kansas, New Mexico, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. The Khewra salt time is considered as the huge deposit of halite near Islamabad, Pakistan. There are primarily three mines in the United Kingdom with the largest of these is at Winsford in Cheshire producing half a million tones on average in six months.
Salt domes are generally pipe-like masses of salt that have been basically compressed from underlying salt beds by movement due to the weight of overlying rock. These salt domes contain anhydrite, gypsum, and native sulfur, along with halite and sylvite. They are general along with the Gulf coasts of Texas and Louisiana and are commonly associated with petroleum deposits.
Halite is generally used both residentially and municipally for handling ice. As brine (a solution of water and salt) has a lower freezing point as compared to pure water, placing salt on ice will cause it to melt. Another advantage of placing rock salt to any icy surface is that it disrupts the interface in which water molecules are regularly replacing each other from liquid to solid. When NaCl form a solution with water, part of the interface is blocked, and the crystalline structure of ice leaves more water molecules than the liquid water is able to replace.
In colder areas, home owners place rock through the sideways and driveways after a snow storm to melt the ice. The most important benefit of using rock salt is that you don't need to use much amount of salt as a small amount of salt is enough to loose the ice so that it can be easily removed by other means.

why are walkers crisps blue for cheese and onion, green for salt and vinegar?
i still like them, but dont they have it round the wrong way?
I'm sure there used to be another brand that did that colourscheme and Walkers did theirs the other way around. They changed it sometime in the late 80's or early 90's if i remember rightly. And needless to say the other crisp brand is rarely, if at all, seen thsese days ...

Homemade Bath Salts Benefits and Uses
The term bath salts refers to a range of water-soluble, usually inorganic solid products designed to be added to a bath, either to improve cleaning, provide a medical improvement, to improve the experience of bathing, or to serve as a vehicle for cosmetic agents. Healthy skin, physical and mental well being is dependent on the correct sodium and potassium or fluid balance in the body.
Basic Bath Salts - Kosher Salt, Baking soda (softens your skin) , Essential oil of your choice , Food coloring optional.
Pour the salt, the essential oils, and a few drops of food coloring into the bowl. Fill the jar. When it's time to use the bath salts, pour the mixture into the bathtub and add warm water. Stir the water so the salt dissolves.
Large glass or metal mixing bowl , 2 cups Epsom's salts, 1 cup Sea salt, rock salt or coarse salt, Food coloring , 1/4 teaspoon Glycerin, Essential oil for fragrance such as vanilla, citrus or peppermint, optional Clean, dry jars with cork stoppers or metal screw-on lid Try and do this on a day with low humidity, the salt will absorb moisture from the air. Combine salts in bowl and mix well. Add a couple drops of food coloring and mix well. Add glycerin and essential oil (4 or 5 drops) and mix well. Spoon salts into the jars and close them. Make a gift tag with the scent (if you used one) and suggesting using 1/3 to 1/2 cup in the bath. Makes 3 cups of bath salts.
